Govt won't lend United Airlines a hand
Good! This airline is so mismanaged and their top brass is so frigging arrogant (starting a new airline - TED while in bankruptcy?) that the gravy train should have stopped a long time ago. We have no more room for CEOs that give themselves double-digit millions in annual bonuses, even though their companies are tanking. Enough of that crap!

Quote of the Week

"We have long since made it clear that a state of war is not a blank check for the president when it comes to the rights of the nation's citizens." - Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O'Connor

Bush Nazis dealt a Blow!
Commandant Ashcroft got a wake-up call today when the Supreme Court, yes, the bastion of conservative right-mindedness, ruled that war detainees get day in court.

It's okay for the Vice President to say "Fuck" in public!
It's great that we have the vice president of the United States using the F-word on the Senate floor. It sets a great example for our kids. It also shows clearly what caliber of person we have in the vice president's office. Thanks Dick for once again showing your true colors!

"We're not thinking in terms of the election. We're thinking in terms of the principle"
That's Dick Cheney gloating about the Supreme Court decision not to force disclosure on his energy task force nonsense. We think full disclosure and transparency in government would be nice and should be mandatory, and we're thinking in terms of the principle!

Cheney Energy Task Force Case held up until after elections!
This is bullshit! The American people have a right to know what kind of crony non-sense Dick is hiding! Be Pissed!

9/11 Panel asks Cheney to Prove Nonsense
9-11 commission is inviting Dick to provide evidence that there were links between Al Qaeda and Iraq under Saddam. The White House keeps claiming that there are links, but like the WMD, no one seems able to provide them. This appears to be a simple thing - if there is evidence, let's see it and put this dumb issue to rest, once and for all!!!

Cheney's office says VP wasn't briefed on Halliburton deal
Of course not! Why should the ex-CEO of Halliburton know about anything like that. It's just a coincidence that he used to run the company, immediately prior to becoming the VP. Cheney's Cheif of Staff knew, but decided not to tell Dick.

And pigs have wings.

State Department Lies about Terrorism Decline!
The State Department acknowledged Thursday that it was wrong in reporting that terrorism declined worldwide last year, a finding used to boost one of Bush's chief foreign policy claims - success in countering terror.

In reality, the number of incidents and the toll in victims increased sharply. Repeat Liar Colin Powell blames "procedural errors".

We're tired of "procedural errors" running our country! Commit a "procedural error" at work and you lose your job!

66 Things to Think About When Flying Into Reagan National Airport
[SpinControl.org editors note: We know everyone has been Reaganed to death, but this is good!]

by DAVID CORN

[from the March 2, 1998 issue of The Nation]

The firing of the air traffic controllers, winnable nuclear war, recallable nuclear missiles, trees that cause pollution, Elliott Abrams lying to Congress, ketchup as a vegetable, colluding with Guatemalan thugs, pardons for F.B.I. lawbreakers, voodoo economics, budget deficits, toasts to Ferdinand Marcos, public housing cutbacks, redbaiting the nuclear freeze movement, James Watt.

Getting cozy with Argentine fascist generals, tax credits for segregated schools, disinformation campaigns, "homeless by choice," Manuel Noriega, falling wages, the HUD scandal, air raids on Libya, "constructive engagement" with apartheid South Africa, United States Information Agency blacklists of liberal speakers, attacks on OSHA and workplace safety, the invasion of Grenada, assassination manuals, Nancy's astrologer.

Drug tests, lie detector tests, Fawn Hall, female appointees (8 percent), mining harbors, the S&L scandal, 239 dead U.S. troops in Beirut, Al Haig "in control," silence on AIDS, food-stamp reductions, Debategate, White House shredding, Jonas Savimbi, tax cuts for the rich, "mistakes were made."

Michael Deaver's conviction for influence peddling, Lyn Nofziger's conviction for influence peddling, Caspar Weinberger's five-count indictment, Ed Meese ("You don't have many suspects who are innocent of a crime"), Donald Regan (women don't "understand throw-weights"), education cuts, massacres in El Salvador.

"The bombing begins in five minutes," $640 Pentagon toilet seats, African- American judicial appointees (1.9 percent), Reader's Digest, C.I.A.-sponsored car-bombing in Lebanon (more than eighty civilians killed), 200 officials accused of wrongdoing, William Casey, Iran/contra.

"Facts are stupid things," three-by-five cards, the MX missile, Bitburg, S.D.I., Robert Bork, naps, Teflon.

"248,000 Hired in May - Jobs Surge a 3rd Month" - Where?
We're wondering where these jobs are, because according to our affiliates around the country, everyone is being laid-off. So are they factoring in the number of people who lost jobs over the same period? Hmmmm. Doesn't seem right.

Someone must have a copy of this.

Just Because He's Dead doesn't Mean he was Good!
Consistent with the complete lack of accountability in the U.S., history is always nice to dead presidents. All the nauseating nonsense cramming the airwaves and print media in the wake of Reagan's death lauds him with praise and love. How quickly we forget what a horrific and inhumane political figure he was. Same thing happened with Nixon.

Russia sacks top TV Journalist - Kremlin silences media's criticism.
So why did SpinControl.org put this in the "National" section as opposed to the "International" section? You connect the dots....

And that's their assessment!
Allegations of sexual assault in the Army have climbed steadily in the last five years and the problem has been abetted by weak prevention efforts, slow investigations, inadequate field reporting and poor managerial oversight, according to internal Army data and a new report from and Army task force.

Bushey Baby consults Lawyer in CIA Leak. Looks like the heat went up a Notch!
The Novak, Wilson, Plame, CIA operative leak thing has Georgey boy on the hot seat - Gotta Love it! U.S. releases concocted story in Padilla case...

We are SLIME!
The Army is investigating at least 2 dozen reports of American soldiers accused of assaulting civilian Iraqis or stealing their money, jewelry or other property during raids, patrols and house-to-house searches, senior Defense Department officials said Sunday.

Happy Memorial Day!

"War Trophy"
President Bush has a pistol that Saddam Hussein held when soldiers pulled him from his "spider hole". He keeps it in the White House and shows it off to privlidged visitors. We at SpinControl.org find this nauseating. Shouldn't this belong to the Iraqi or perhaps even the American people? It's all about avenging daddy, isn't it? Yuck!

Memorial Day. Sacred Cow, Taboo to Criticize. Bahhhh!
Every year, and especially during a war and with the whipped up fascism blanketing the country of late, one hears the whining of those who proclaim "we owe a debt of gratitude to those brave patriots who sacrificed their lives for our freedom" or some such nonsense. Blah. Boring. This may have been true in the Civil War, the First and Second World Wars, perhaps even in Korea, thou we doubt it, but it definitely is not true for VietNam, Gulf War I and II (were those wars?) - we had no business being there, so no "debt of gratitude" is owed. Period. Happy Memorial Day! It's about BBQs and the start of summer - Enjoy!

Army's probe of Abuse Questioned.
As the Army proceeds with no less than seven (to date) Pentagon launched probes of "who is responsible?" for the Iraqi prison scandal(s), some are questioning whether or not the Army should be calling for an external [non army] panel. Gee, we wonder why? Sounds like business as usual. Why not launch even more at taxpayer expense?

We are our own Worst Enemy!
Never mind the fact that we shouldn't be in this war and that no one should have died for it, close scrutiny of the 800+ war dead and their causes of death reveal that hundreds of these war dead are dead as the result of "friendly fire", "non-combat injuries", "accidents" and an alarmingly large number of vehicle related "traffic accidents" and "rollovers".

Leadership, training, basic driving skills seem to be lacking. As in the first Iraq "war", we are again, our own worst enemy!

Here are the gory details...

Meathead Action Figure Killed by own Men!
We find it disturbing that "celebrity" soldiers get more credit than the average G.I. Joe and even more disturbing when any of them are needlessly killed by their own team.

FBI Requests public help in finding Al Qaeda operatives
Appearently, the FBI can't find their own belly buttons.

Powell: Iraqis cited in UN Speech not Found!
Gee, I wonder why that is? Nothing like scrutinizing your sources. The Secretary of State stated Wednesday that U.S. investigators have been unable to find or identify the "Iraqi officers" whose voices were on the silly, vague recordings that Powell presented at the U.N. just prior to the start of the Iraq war to try and justify Bush's cause. It was pathetic then, it's even more pathetic now. This guy was once respectable, now just another of Bush's pawns. Fool!

Me a Culp a Rit
The New York Times. Once a bastion of all that is credible (?), now just another journalistic flop-house. Is there no accountability anywhere? The New York Times, the Bush Administration, the Clinton Administration, the Catholic Church, thank god we still have our law enforcement infrastructure to look up to!

The New York times colluded with the Bushies to portray to the nation a credible threat from Iraq's non-existent WMAs and their non-existent Terrorist Training Camps.

Miraculous! FBI Admits Error - Even Apologizes!
FBI acknowledges fuckup with Brandon Mayfield arrest (the Portland, OR lawyer mentioned below). It's amazing what the FBI can do when they make a mistake involving a lawyer and then realize that they're going to get the shit sued out of them.

Bush pledged to demolish Abu Ghraib!
Why not just rename it? AMERICAN TAXPAYER DOLLARS were used to pay some contractor (probably Haliburton, though the Pentagon doesn't disclose anything) MILLIONS OF DOLLARS to gut and re-vamp Abu Ghraib roughly a year ago. Now, in yet another desperate PR move, Bush is pledging to demolish it. Then, we'll hire same contractor to build a newer, better, more expensive one! Why not? It's only our hard earned money! And what powerful imagery - they should have George take the first, ceremonial whack with the wrecking ball!

Iraqi Amputees get freebie Prosthetics.
A handful of Iraqi amputees were given free prosthetic fix-ups by a Houston group of surgeons. Really a nice gesture. Perhaps they would consider doing the same for some of the tax paying American kids who've lost limbs trying to "help" the Iraqis? Or some of the other misfortunate American citizens who suffer the same maladies. Why are we so hell bent on helping all of these people in this oil rich country who couldn't give a damn about us?

Oregon Jailing = Abuse of Patriot Act!
Just as should have been expected, the "patriot act" has been abused once again. Now proven completely innocent, Brandon Mayfield was arrested and held for two weeks in Portland, his life turned upside down, never charged and denied access to a lawyer, and now released as the result of a bunch of trigger happy, fascist zealots in D.C.. Next it could be YOU!

Moronic Politics hurt all the wrong people...
Bush's decision to tighten trade and immigration embargoes with Cuba earlier this week is extremely misguided. We already know that Fidel Castro will not break - he's demonstrated his resolve for 40+ years. We get screwed because we don't get to see the Buena Vista Social Club or any of hundreds of other great artists and cultural contributors here in the states. We also screw ourselves by not being able to take advantage of potentially billions of dollars in commerce with Cuba. The poor people of Cuba get screwed the worst however as they are not able to get the things they need at competitive prices to live their daily lives. Wake up Bush, the Cold War is OVER.

News Flash! - Member of Bush Cabinet Actually takes responsibility for something!
Amazing! Donald Rumsfeld actually took responsibility for the Iraqi Prison Scanday yesterday while being grilled by congress. It's amazing what can happen when you have your back to the wall and the entire world is calling for your resignation.

High points of this session included Senator John McCain ripping Rumsfeld a new Asshole!

George calls Abu Ghraib Scandal "Abhorrent".

Thanks Haliburton!
It seems that numerous stateside families are having the care packages they ship at high cost to their kin in Iraq returned as "unshippable". Our friends at Haliburton are responsible for handling mail for the troops. They are charging the U.S. taxpayers 10's of Millions of dollars to do this.

Thanks Haliburton!

Another $25 Billion!!!!
Georgey Porgey! What the FUCK? We could've rebuilt Detroit with that much money and we could have hired Haliburton to do it so you and all your rich buddies would have still gotten the cash...
